Due to hunters the Grizzly bear nearly became extinct. Now the Grizzly primarily lives in the Western Northern America and Canada. The Brown bear is found in more areas of the world than any of the other bear seven bear species.
They are omnivore which means that they eat both vegetable and animal matter. With it's great sense of smell, it can find food miles away. The Grizzly bear can stand in the river and scoop up salmon with it's paws. They will eat lots of food in the summer and fall so they will be ready for hibernation.
The Grizzly bear is larger than the Black bear. Black bears have short, curved claws better suited to climbing trees. The Grizzly bears have longer, less curved claws and a larger shoulder muscles which are better suited to digging than climbing.
The Kodiak bear is the largest of all the brown bears, some grow up to 10 feet tall standing on it's hind feet. They have a keen sense of smell and are extraordinarily powerful. The Kodiak bear lives primarily in the coastal, meadows and streams of Alaska.
