This is the paw of a Lion The lion is the second largest member of the cat family, the tiger being the largest. Females do most of the hunting. A lion's roar can be heard 5 miles away. They can reach speeds of 36 mph. Photo on top is a male lion... on the left is a female lion.
The lions are the most social of the cat family. A pride (a group of lions) usually consists of an average of 3 to 30, depending on the availability of food. A pride may have 1 or more males, related females and their cubs. Lions prefer to live in the grasslands.
Cubs are raised by the pride and stay with their mothers for 2 years. They depend on their elders for thier food... although they do take part in in hunting before they are a year old.
