The starfish is shaped like a star. It isn't a fish, as the name implies, it belongs to the echinoderm family... an animal with spiny skin. Starfish do not swim, using their suckers located on each foot they crawl and climb on the oceans floor. Some of the bumps on the starfish absorb oxygen.
The starfish have arms... most have five arms, but some have as many as twenty arms. Each arm is lined with feet... each foot has a sucker that works like a suction cup. This helps the starfish stick to rocks and catch its food. If a starfish looses an arm, it can grow a new one.
There is an eyespot on the tip of each arm... the starfish can see light and dark. The starfish has a mouth, located on its underside. They use the suckers to move the food to their mouth. Once near their mouth, they push the food in to their stomach.
