At first I thought it was a Bumble Bee (it was about the same color)... but his body was longer, and the tail area flared outward. It fluttered over and around the flowers like a hummingbird... moving into the flower to sip up it's nectar.
Our search started at Ask Terrie and Larry from The Hummingbird Web Site. I remembered seeing a similar question posted there. They suggested that it may be a Sphinx moth (reading a question asked by another of their visitors).
Then we went to Hummingbirds from Texas Bird Watcher and visited their Hummingbird Moth page. From their we took a link to another photo page of Hummingbird Moths.
Clearwing... that information came from the Hummingbird book... Hummingbird Gardens
We hope he visits our garden many more times!
